Walton Wins 55m Dash at Husky Winter Carnival

BOSTON - Freshman Shelby Walton of the Boston University women's indoor track and field team sprinted to victory in the 55-meter dash, posting a 7.17 time in her first collegiate meet at the Husky Winter Carnival on Saturday at the Reggie Lewis Center. Walton also finished second in the 200-meter dash to highlight the Terriers' first meet of the indoor season.

Walton posted a 25.57 in the 200m to lead four Terriers in the top seven of the race. Freshman Jackie Dim (25.98) came in fourth place, senior Erin Catarius (26.03) was fifth and senior Edwina Clark (26.26) was seventh. Catarius was also third in the 55m, crossing in 7.30.

Senior Becky Marshburn finished second in the 500-meter dash with a 1:18.77 and posted an 8.72 in the preliminaries of the 55-meter hurdles, while junior Casey Jordan came in seventh in the 500m at 1:20.38.

In the distance events, senior Katie Weider posted a second-place finish in the 1,000-meter run with a 2:56.83.

The Terriers' 4x400-meter relay team of Clark, Dim, Marshburn and sophomore Laura Martin finished second with a 3:56.50.

In the high jump, sophomore Karly Neveu matched her personal best, clearing 1.67m to take the runner-up spot.

Junior Whitney Ford (5.46m) and Clark (5.42m) both performed well in the long jump, finishing fourth and fifth, respectively.

The Terriers are back in action on Dec. 13, competing in the Harvard Open in Allston.
