Terriers Compete in Valentine Invitational Friday, Saturday

BOSTON - Seniors Marisa Ryan and Tahari James took first place in the 3000m run and long jump, respectively, Friday at the Valentine Invitational at Boston University's Track and Tennis Center, while the men's team took their turn Saturday.
Ryan finished the 3000m in 9:24.92, just shy of two seconds ahead of the second place runner. Senior Alyssa Fanucci (7.45) placed 20th in the 55m dash, followed by junior Alexis Beaudet (7.61, 37) and freshman Laura Martin (7.67, 46). James (25.12, 12), sophomore Whitney Ford (25.36, 18) and Martin (26.70, 72) all crossed in the 200m dash, while sophomore Casey Jordan (58.97, 32) was the only Terrier to compete in the 400m. Juniors Rebecca Marshburn (1:17.65, 15) and Katie Weider (1:18.92, 23) took spots in the 500m, with senior Mollie Zapata (5:27.48) took the 90th place in the mile run. Sophomores Sarah Mosser (2:14.89, 16) and Andrea Tingue (2:28, 97) both placed in the 800m. Marshburn (9.69, 18) and senior Megan LaBella (9.34, 54) finished 18th and 54th, respectively.
In the field events, freshman Karly Neveu (J1.63m, 15) and LaBella (J1.53m, 37) both placed in the high jump, while sophomore Fiona Romeri (2.95m) tied for the 23rd spot in the pole vault. Senior Edwina Clark (5.36m, 6), Fanucci (5.15m, T-11) and Beaudet (5.13, T-14) all placed behind James (6.04m, 1) in the long jump and LaBella (10.07m) took 45th in the shot put.
Freshman Joel Senick (48.38, 5) headlined the six Terrier runners in the 400m, including sophomore Mark Mazzochette (51.25, 84), juniors Adam Churey (51.58, 97) and Joseph Pike (53.23, 129), and seniors Keith Buchanan (51.94, 104) and Greg Daggett (53.24, 130). Buchanan (6.88, 64) was the first BU runner to cross in the 55m dash, followed by junior David Barth (6.92, 74) and sophomore Chase Carnahan (7.10, 86). Buchanan (23.13, 98) also ran the 200m dash, along with Barth (23.49, 127) and sophomores Max Esposito (23.10, 94), Kodjo Wilder (23.37, 118), Carnahan (23.59, 134) and Moore (24.87, 183). Senior Chadd Steinhauser (1:05.16, 9) was the only Terrier to run the 500m, while seniors Jake Laroe (3:09.98, 5) and Patrick Hoye (4:14.95, 28) and sophomore Eric Ashe (4:13.16, 22) all crossed in the mile run. Sophomore Jason English (2:05.15, 158) completed the 800m run and junior Tom McLean (9:01.41) placed 99th in the 3000m.
Sophomore Jan Bicanic had another impressive showing in the shot put, placing sixth with a 15.92m throw, followed by freshman Daniel Withrow (14.67m, 17), senior Dan Martin (14.45m, 26) and Carnahan (11.35m, 57). Wilder (6.50m) tied for 14th in the long jump, while Daggett and More tied for 22nd in the pole vault, both reaching 4.15m. Junior Jun Dambara tied for 24th in the pole vault with a J1.83m mark and junior Jason Nardella (8.11, 30), Moore (8.49, 55) and Daggett (8.53, 58) all competed in the 55m hurdles.
