
Terriers Close Out Regular Season at Penn Relays, Brown Invitational

The Boston University outdoor track and field team faced competition at the Brown Invitational Sunday, after sending representatives to the Penn Relays over the weekend. Senior Tahari James placed third in the Championship of America long jump competition in Pennsylvania, while senior Jake Laroe took first in the 800m at Brown, setting the seventh-best mark in America East this season.
James's 6.08m distance was her best of the season, topping her previous conference-topping outing at the Florida Relays. Sophomore Whitney Ford won the Eastern section of the triple jump, landing a 12.74m distance. The women's 4x100m relay team finished fourth with a 47.27 time, while junior Rebecca Marshburn (62.54) and sophomore Casey Jordan (66.33) placed 26th and 45th in the 400m hurdles, respectively. The event is well attended annually, with over 100,000 spectators each of the last three years.
At the Brown Invitational, Laroe's 1:54.34 time paced the 800m race, with freshman Ken Haltom following up with a 1:55.46 time in third. Senior Nick Goodman (3:53.48, 2) and sophomore David Polgar (3:58.37, 6) both crossed in the 1500m, while sophomore Max Esposito took ninth in the 100m with a 11.51 mark. Esposit also finished eighth in the 200m with a 23.42 time, just behind senior Keith Buchanan (23.26) in sixth.
Junior Jason Nardella (15.57m, 3), freshman Rich Haigh (16.35, 8) and senior Greg Daggett, jr. (17.11, 10) all placed in the 110m hurdles, while sophomore Mark Mazzochette took sixth in the 400m hurdles with a 57.01 time.
Sophomore Jan Bicanic (15.49m) and freshman Dan Withrow (14.56m, 6) both competed in the shot put and Haigh took fifth in the long jump with a 6.34m distance. Sophomore Logan Moore tied for second in the pole vault with a 4.35m height and classmate Jordan Cumper placed eighth with a 3.75m mark. Withrow's 42.02m distance in the hammer throw earned him 12th place, while senior Dan Martin (41.96m, 7), sophomore Chase Carnahan (41.47m, 8) and juniors Mike Salem (31.79m, 16) and Jun Dambara (30.85m, 20) all placed in the discus. Carnahan also competed in the javelin, finishing eighth with a 46.94m distance, ahead of senior Andy Beatman (46.37m, 10), junior Chris Conroy (43.16m, 14) and Salem (38.22m, 17).
Freshman Alex Jackson's 12.45 time in the 100m earned her second place at the meet and the ninth-best finish in the conference this season, while senior Alyssa Fanucci took ninth with a 13.11 mark. Freshman Amanda Howard (1:00.39) placed eighth in the 400m, freshman Emma Reed (2:16.47) took ninth in the 800m and junior Mollie Zapata (4:56.57) finished 20th in the 1500m. Senior Megan LaBella took 18th in the 100m hurdles, crossing with a 18.69 time.
Junior Edwina Clark entered the third-best long jump distance in America East this season, taking the competition at the Brown Invitational with a 5.65m distance, with Fanicci (4.93m, 8) following. Freshman Karly Neveu placed second with a 1.65m height in the high jump, while LaBella (1.55m) placed eighth. Jackson took fifth in the triple jump with a 10.78m distance, sophomore Fiona Romeri finished eighth in by clearing 3.20m in the pole vault and freshman Jen Fleser rounded out the top-10 in the hammer throw, tossing 40.86m.
Next weekend, the outdoor track and field team travels to Orono, Maine, to face conference competition at the America East Tournament on Saturday and Sunday.
