Nine Terriers Place at NCAA Regionals

TALLAHASSEE, FLA. - Nine Terriers competed at the outdoor track and field NCAA Division I East Region Championship at Florida State University's Mike Long Track over the weekend, including senior Tahari James, who qualified for nationals with a fourth place finish in the triple jump, took eighth in the long jump and was a member of the 4x100m relay team that set a new school record. Junior Jan Bicanic also performed well, taking sixth in the discus and entering a new personal best.
James' 5.98m distance in long jump slightly edged sophomore Whitney Ford, who came in 14th with a 5.83m jump. Ford also placed in the triple jump with James, taking 19th with a 12.32m distance to James' 13.40m jump. Bicanic's 52.67m distance was good for sixth place, setting a new personal record.
Ford, James, freshman Laura Martin and junior Erin Catarius combined for the 21st best time in the 4x100m relay, crossing in 46.47. Senior Kat Warden (2:09.40) took 19th in the 800m, while senior David Proctor earned 16th in the 1500m with a 3:45.28 time. Senior Jessica Cickay (10:36.27) and sophomore Eric Ashe (9:07.47) both finished the 3000m steeplechase, taking 10th and 11th, respectively.
Senior Marisa Ryan, who has already qualified for nationals in the 10K, and James will next see action at Drake University's Drake Stadium in Des Moines, Iowa, competing in the NCAA championship from June 11-14. Senior Andrea Walkonen is also a possible representative for the Terriers at nationals in the 10k.
