BOSTON - The Boston University men's soccer team plays its fourth straight nationally ranked opponent to open the season on Friday when the Terriers travel to New York to face No. 11 St. John's. Kickoff is at 8 p.m. from Belson Stadium in Jamaica, N.Y.
Live streaming video will be available online through St. John's Stormtracker All-Access and Gametracker live stats will be available for free.
BU (0-2-1) will look for continued improvement following its first result of the season, a scoreless draw at No. 3 Connecticut on Sunday in Storrs, Conn. Senior goalkeeper Hrafn Davidsson made four saves and senior captain Dan Schultz anchored the defense as the Terriers held scoreless for the first time this season the Huskies' offense that ranked eighth in the nation last season and features the reigning Hermann Trophy winner.
Redshirt freshman Ryan Shea and sophomore Aaron O'Neal, last season's America East Rookie of the Year, hold the early scoring lead for BU with a goal and an assist each.
Davidsson earned America East Player of the Week honors for his efforts against Connecticut and was named an ECAC Co-Defensive Player of the Week. Davidsson shared the ECAC award with Red Storm senior back Rory Quinn, who helped St. John's to a 1-0 win over No. 12 Brown and a 1-1 draw with No. 2 Boston College at the Adidas/Brown Soccer Classic in Providence, R.I., last weekend.
Quinn was also honored as the Big East Defensive Player of the Week as he and freshman Connor Lade excelled in the backfield to help the Red Storm remain unbeaten at 3-0-1, the first time St. John's has been unbeaten through four games since 2001. Sophomore midfielder Tafadzwa Chiduku was named offensive MVP of the tournament in Rhode Island, while freshman forward Walter Hines and sophomore midfielder Ale Ivo joined Lade and Quinn on the all-tournament team.
After Friday's game, the Terriers return to Boston to open a three-game home stand, hosting Rhode Island on Sunday at 4:30 p.m. at Nickerson Field. Sunday's game is the second half of a doubleheader with the women's soccer team playing Northeastern at 1 p.m. and a concert between games by BU student band Forest Henderson. Live streaming video will be available for all home games this season through BU All-Access.
