Terriers Announce Seven Recruits for 2008-09

BOSTON - Boston University director of track and field Robyne Johnson is pleased to announce the seven incoming freshmen who will comprise the recruiting class for the Terriers' men's track and field program in 2008-09.
A quartet of versatile sprinters join the fold for BU this season. Robert Page (Swedesboro, N.J.) was the New Jersey state champion in the 100-meter dash his senior year in high school. He ran a personal best 10.60 in the 100m and has also posted times of 21.69 in the 200m and 48.67 in the 400m.
After playing for the Terriers' soccer team this fall, Matt Pereira (Woburn, Mass.) will move from the pitch to the track, where he has a personal best 11.07 in the 100m. Pereira has also posted a 6'5 high jump and 43'4.25 triple jump and been a part of a national champion 4x400m relay team.
Justin Maes (Helena, Mont.) has run a personal best 11.10 in the 100m and a 22.23 in the 200m. He also has a 14'0 pole vault to his credit and finished in the top five in five events at the Montana state championships his senior year at Helena High School.
Tewado Latty (White Plains, N.Y.) was the New York state indoor champion in the 300m his senior year at White Plains High School, where he ran a 34.90. He also brings a 47.55 time in the 400m to the Terriers. His best indoor times in both events were among the top 15 in the nation last season.
Three local distance runners will bring their talents to BU as well. Peter Gilmore (Hanson, Mass.) has already established himself among the top runners on the Terriers' cross country squad this fall. He finished in third in the two-mile at the New England indoor championships in 2008 and boasts a personal best of 9:26.48 at that distance, as well as a 4:21.33 in the mile.
Two Brookline High School products round out the class. Elliot Lehane (Brookline, Mass.), the son of cross country head coach Bruce Lehane, has a personal best mile time of 4:24.02, while Chris Mercurio (Brookline, Mass.) has run a 4:31.66 mile.
