Boston University director of track and field Robyne Johnson is pleased to announce the incoming freshmen who will comprise this season's recruiting class for the Terriers' women's track and field programs in 2008-09. A group of nine recruits joins the women's program that will be defending its indoor and outdoor America East championships this season.
A pair of sprinters will join the Terriers. Shelby Walton (Danbury, Conn.) is the reigning Connecticut and New England indoor champion in the 55-meter dash as well as the New England outdoor champion in the 100-meter dash. Her personal bests are 7.09 in the 55m and 11.96 in the 100m and Walton has also run a 25.04 in the 200m.
Jackie Dim (Sicklerville, N.J.) has placed in the top five at the New Jersey Meet of Champions in the 400m race and the 400m hurdles. She has run the 400m in 56.31 and the 400m hurdles in 1:01.83. In the shorter sprints, Dim has posted a 12.02 100m time and a 24.71 in the 200m.
Joining the jumpers will be Mia Pasini (Santa Barbara, Calif.), who has jumped 17'5 in the long jump and has a personal best of 36'9.75 in the triple jump.
Aly Rofrano (Sayville, N.Y.) adds to the BU pole vaulting corps. Rofrano owns a personal record vault of 10'3.
The Terriers have a pair of Canadians set to add to the middle distance runners. Sarah Healy (Courtice, Ont.) has personal bests of 1:36.64 in the 600m, 2:13.81 in the 800m and 4:43.95 in the 1500m.
Mariko Takahashi (London, Ont.) has posted a 2:11.15 in the 800m and a 4:38.45 in the 1500m, times that earned her regional honors in high school.
Local product Anna Lukes (Wellesley, Mass.) also joins the middle distance group. She has run a personal best of 2:19.74 in the 800m.
The two long distance specialists joining the squad are Katie Matthews (Rocky Hill, Conn.) and Amanda Solly (West Seneca, N.Y.). Matthews has posted a 5:04.45 in the mile and a 10:52.29 in the two-mile race. Solly has run a 4:46.51 in the 1500m, a 10:05.60 in the 3000m and an 18:25.60 in a 5k cross country race.
Healy, Takahashi, Lukes, Matthews and Solly are all on the roster for the cross country team this fall as well and Matthews already has a pair of top-20 finishes for the Terriers.
