CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Boston University freshman Nikko Brady of the women’s track and field team was named America East Female Indoor Track and Field Performer of the Week, the league announced. Brady joins three members of the UMBC track and field teams in receiving the award, the first presented by the league for the 2009-10 season.
Brady kicked off her collegiate career in style, taking the 55m hurdle title at the season-opening Jay Carisella Invitational, hosted by Northeastern at the Reggie Lewis Center in Boston last Saturday. The freshman posted a time of 8.15 in the finals, giving her the win by .01 seconds and allowing her to qualify for the ECAC Championship meet in the event.
The Delaware native also showed her strength in the long jump, tying teammate Whitney Ford for first place in the event. The two Terriers posted marks of 5.70m, which automatically qualifies both of them for the ECAC Championships in March.
Brady and the women’s and men’s track and field teams are back in action this weekend at the Harvard Open on Saturday, Dec. 12 at the Gordon Track and Tennis Center in Cambridge, Mass.
