
Senick Takes 500m Title at Jay Carisella Invitational

BOSTON – Junior Joel Senick took the title in the 500m dash as the Boston University men’s track and field team opened its 2009-10 indoor season at the Jay Carisella Invitational Saturday at the Reggie Lewis Center.
Senick was the lone BU runner to take home a win from the meet, posting a time of 1:04.66 in the 500m race, recording the win by a 0.24-second margin. Freshman Duran Ward had a solid showing in his first meet as a Terrier, placing second in the 55m dash (6.49) and fourth in the 200m race (22.31).
Sophomore Tewado Latty posted a time of 49.08 in the 400m event, good for a third place finish, and freshman Thomas Mayer finished 13th with a time of 51.41. In the 500m race, the Terriers placed four runners in the top-15, as senior Mark Mazzochette (1:06.72, fourth), junior Michael Zimmerman (1:08.04, ninth) and freshman Davis VanOpdorp (1:08.91, 14th) followed the winner Senick.
Rookie Sam Arsenault had a solid showing in the 55m hurdles, posting a time of 7.97 for a third place finish, and also tied junior Rich Haigh in the high jump with a fifth-place mark of 1.93m.
Senior Jordan Cumper finished 11th in the pole vault with a clearance of 3.81m and classmate Jan Bicanic placed fourth in the shot put with a mark of 15.18m.
The Terriers are back in action next weekend at the Harvard Invitational at the Gordon Track and Tennis Center in Cambridge, Mass.
