Walton Wins 55m Dash at Valentine Invitational

BOSTON - Freshman Shelby Walton won the 55-meter dash to highlight action by the Boston University women's indoor track and field team at the BU Valentine Invitational on Friday at the BU Track and Tennis Center. Senior Edwina Clark finished first among collegians in the long jump and the Terriers' 4x400m relay team also topped its collegiate competition.
Walton posted a season-best 7.09 in the 55m dash to top a field of 79. Senior Erin Catarius (7.22) and junior Whitney Ford (7.24) also made the finals in the event, finishing fifth and sixth, respectively.
The 4x400m relay team finished second overall with a 3:52.36, the best time for a collegiate team and meeting the qualifying standard for the ECAC Championship.
Clark leaped 5.69m in the long jump to finish second only to Tahari James, who has exhausted her indoor eligibility and is competing unattached, but will return to the Terriers for her final season of outdoor track this spring. Senior Alyssa Fanucci was 10th with a 5.29m jump.
In the 200m dash, Ford led the Terriers with a 10th-place finish (25.16), freshman Jackie Dim was 16th (25.35), sophomore Amanda Howard was 33rd (25.95), sophomore Alex Jackson was 37th (26.03) and Fanucci was 75th (26.83) in a field of 162.
Senior Becky Marshburn finished 10th in the 400m dash, posting a 57.07, and was 19th in the 55m hurdles with an 8.77. Freshman Bre Parhiala was 37th in the hurdles with a 9.20.
Sophomore Karly Neveu tied for fourth in the high jump with a season-best 1.68m mark. In the pole vault, junior Fiona Romeri cleared 3.20m to finish 11th, freshman Aly Rofrano tied for 14th with a 3.05m and freshman Adwoa Hanson-Hall tied for 20th, clearing 2.75m.
Jackson posted a mark of 10.74m to finish 13th in the triple jump. Junior Jen Fleser threw the weight 13.72m to finish 20th.
The Terriers are in action again next weekend (Feb. 20-21), defending their conference title at the America East Championship on Friday and Saturday at the Track and Tennis Center.
