BU Women Sixth, Men 13th at New England Championship

BOSTON - Highlighted by a pair of second-place finishes on the second day of competition, the Boston University women's indoor track and field team placed sixth at the New England Championships, which wrapped up on Saturday at the BU Track and Tennis Center. The men's squad finished in 13th place.

Connecticut swept the titles for both the men and women. The Huskies' women finished with 186.5 points, with Northeastern (61), New Hampshire (44), Rhode Island (43.5) and Maine (38.33) the only teams to finish ahead of the Terriers' 36 points.

The Connecticut men tallied 128.5 points, finishing ahead of New Hampshire (90) and UMass Lowell (73). BU tallied 17 points.

Senior Katie Weider was the runner-up in the women's 800m run, posting a 2:11.75. Junior Whitney Ford also posted a second-place finish with a mark of 12.17m in the triple jump.

Senior Becky Marshburn finished fifth in the 400m dash with a 57.30 and sophomore Laura Martin placed eighth in 58.00. Marshburn also scored for BU in the 55m hurdles, where she finished seventh with a time of 8.48.

In the high jump, sophomore Karly Neveu cleared 1.65m to place seventh.

On the men's side, senior Jason Nardella was third in the 55m hurdles with a time of 7.78. Sophomore Dan Withrow earned points for BU in the field with a fourth-place finish in the shot put, posting a mark of 16.16m.

Freshman Balint Horvath was fourth and junior Jeff Moreau was eighth in the 800m run with times of 1:50.71 and 1:52.35, respectively.

The Terriers' top performers will be back in action again next weekend (March 7-8). The men compete in the IC4A Championship at the Track and Tennis Center, while the women will be across town at the Reggie Lewis Center for the ECAC Championship.
