COLLEGE STATION, Texas -
Boston University senior Andrea Walkonen earned All-America honors with an eighth-place finish in the women's 5,000-meter run at the NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships on Friday night at the Gilliam Indoor Track Stadium. Walkonen posted a mark of 16:03.04, breaking the school record that she set last month at the America East Championship.
Senior Sally Kipyego of Texas Tech won the race in 15:51.14, finishing seven seconds ahead of runner-up Frances Koons, a senior at Villanova.
Walkonen earned All-America honors for the second time in her senior campaign. The Jaffrey, N.H., native was an All-American in cross country this fall after finishing 21st at the NCAA Championship in November.
This marks the fourth straight track and field championship that resulted in All-America honors for a Terrier. Before Walkonen earned the honor this fall, Marisa Ryan and Tahari James were each named All-Americans at both the indoor and outdoor championships last year.
