STANFORD, Calif. - Senior Andrea Walkonen of the Boston University outdoor track and field team automatically qualified for the NCAA Championships in the 10,000-meter run, finishing second in a talented field of 20 at the Stanford Invitational on Friday night at Cobb Track.

Walkonen was the top collegian in the field, posting a time of 33:13.66 and setting the early-season mark as the time to beat nationally. She finished behind Kate O'Neill (33:02.31), while beating out junior Clara Grandt of West Virginia (33:16.96), who also automatically qualified for NCAAs.

Walkonen has already earned All-America honors in cross country and indoor track and field in her senior campaign and will have a chance to become a three-season All-American at the outdoor championships in June.

The Terriers are back in action on Saturday (March 28), competing in the Tufts Snowflake Classic in Medford, Mass.
