
Relay Records Fall at ECAC/IC4A Championships

BOSTON - A pair of relay records fell this weekend as the Boston University men's indoor track and field team competed at the IC4A Championship at the BU Track and Tennis Center, while the women were across town in the ECAC Championship at the Reggie Lewis Center. The men's 4x800m relay team and women's 4x400m relay team each set school records in their respective events.
The women's team finished the meet in 12th place with 24 points as Duke captured the title with 56 points to outpace runner-up Boston College's 40 points. On the men's side, the Terriers tallied six points to tie for 39th at the meet. Albany's 72.5 points were good for the title over Connecticut's 63.5-point effort.
The Terrier men's 4x800m relay team of sophomore Ken Haltom, junior Jeff Moreau, freshman Balint Horvath and senior David Proctor finished in 7:25.23, breaking the 25-year-old record of 7:31.9 and ranking third in the event.
The BU quartet of senior Becky Marshburn, freshman Jackie Dim and sophomores Laura Martin and Amanda Howard posted a time of 3:47.39 in the women's 4x400m relay, besting the previous record of 3:48.42 that was set two years ago by a foursome that included Marshburn. The Terriers finished fifth in the field.
Junior Whitney Ford won the ECAC long jump championship with a leap of 5.97m and finished fifth in the triple jump with a mark of 12.17m. Senior Edwina Clark was fifth in the long jump, reaching 5.70m.
Senior Becky Marshburn also earned points for the Terriers with her seventh-place finish in the 500m dash, finishing in a season-best 1:13.80.
The indoor track season concludes at the NCAA Championships on Friday and Saturday (March 13-14) in College Station, Texas. Senior Andrea Walkonen automatically qualified in the 5,000m run and provisionally qualified in the 3,000m run and classmate David Proctor provisionally qualified in the mile run. Selections for the championship will be announced on Monday (March 9).
