James, Marshburn Among Winners at Spec Towns Invitational

Senior Tahari James won both the long jump and the triple jump for the second straight week, highlighting action by the Boston University outdoor track and field teams this weekend at the Spec Towns National Team Invitational in Athens, Ga., and the Sun Angel Classic in Tempe, Ariz. Senior Becky Marshburn qualified for the NCAA Regionals, winning the 400m hurdles in Georgia.
With most of the squad competing at the Spec Towns Invitational, James won the long jump in her second straight competition with a mark of 6.27m. Senior Edwina Clark qualified for the ECAC Championships in the event with a fifth-place finish and a 5.81m leap. In the triple jump, James' best jump was 13.15m, good for the win in that event as well.
Marshburn qualified for the NCAA Regionals by winning the 400m hurdles in 1.00.38. Marshburn was also the top collegiate finisher, second overall, in the 100m hurdles with a 14.45.
BU's 4x100m relay team came within .03 seconds of the school record, with junior Whitney Ford, James, sophomore Laura Martin and freshman Shelby Walton winning the event with a 46.50. The Terriers' "B" team also posted an ECAC-qualifying time as freshman Jackie Dim, sophomore Amanda Howard, senior Alyssa Fanucci and sophomore Alex Jackson finished in 48.23.
Freshman Katie Matthews won the 5,000m run, posting a mark of 17:32.28.
James and Dim each qualified for the ECAC Championships in the 200m dash, with James clocking a 24.73 for third place and Dim in fourth with a 24.88. Martin followed in fifth (24.91).
Walton ran the 100m dash in 11.94, good for fourth place, and was followed by Martin in fifth (12.13) and Ford in sixth (12.23).
On the men's side, freshman Tewado Latty qualified for the IC4A Championships in the 400m dash, with a time of 48.04 and fourth-place finish. Latty also anchored the 4x400m relay team of junior Max Esposito, sophomore Joel Senick and senior Chadd Steinhauser that clocked a 3:16.74 for seventh place.
Senior David Proctor was the top performer of the small contingent that competed in Arizona, finishing 16th in the 1,500m run with an IC4A-qualifying 3:50.59.
