Terriers in Second After First Day at America East Championships

VESTAL, N.Y. - Led by senior Tahari James, the Boston University women's outdoor track and field team swept the top three spots in the long jump to lead the Terriers on the first day of action at the America East Championships on Saturday at the East Gym Track Complex. Freshman Shelby Walton set a conference record in the preliminaries of the 100-meter dash and the Terriers sit in second place after the first day of action.

New Hampshire leads the meet with 66 points after the first three events. The Terriers rank second with 39.5 points, just ahead of Albany (38.5 points) and outpacing Binghamton (30), Maine (19), Hartford (15), Vermont and Stony Brook (11) and UMBC (3).

James defended her title in the long jump with a mark of 6.04m. She was followed by junior Whitney Ford, ranking second with a 5.81m jump, and senior Edwina Clark in third at 5.76m.

Junior Fiona Romeri finished second in the pole vault and freshman Aly Rofrano tied for third with each clearing 3.15m.

Sophomore Jen Fleser also scored for the Terriers, posting a seventh-place finish in the hammer throw with a toss of 43.82m.

Most of the action on the first day was preliminaries. Freshman Shelby Walton set a school and conference record, running the 100m dash in 11.84. Classmate Jackie Dim posted the fastest time in the 200m dash with a 24.50.

The Terriers are seeking to repeat as conference champions on the final day of the meet on Sunday (May 3) with action beginning at 11 a.m.
