VESTAL, N.Y. - Senior Tahari James defended her triple jump title and was part of the winning 4x100m relay team as the Boston University women's outdoor track and field team finished third at the America East Championships on Sunday at the East Gym Track Complex. Albany won the team title, besting runner-up New Hampshire for the championship.
The Great Danes compiled 176.5 points to claim the title. New Hampshire followed with 153 points and the Terriers posted 140.5 points. Maine (111 points), Binghamton (80), Vermont (69), Stony Brook (50), Hartford (39) and UMBC (34) rounded out the pack. James was named the Most Outstanding Field Performer of the Meet and also earned the Coaches' Award.
James posted a mark of 13.17m to capture her fourth conference triple jump title. Junior Whitney Ford was third in the event with a 12.44m mark.
Ford and James teamed with sophomore Laura Martin and freshman Shelby Walton to capture the 4x100m relay, matching the school record time of 46.23 that the quartet set earlier this season.
The Terriers took third in two other relays. Senior Becky Marshburn, sophomore Amanda Howard, Martin and freshman Jackie Dim posted a time of 3:50.71 in the 4x400m relay.
In the 4x800m relay, freshmen Sarah Healy and Mariko Takahashi, junior Sarah Mosser and senior Katie Weider ran a 9:13.55 to finish third and qualify for the ECAC Championships.
Four Terriers competed in the finals of the 100m dash with Walton posting a 12.15 to finish third. Ford was next with a 12.19, while James came in sixth in 12.40 and senior Erin Catarius crossed in 12.58 to claim seventh.
A quartet of Terriers also qualified for the finals of the 200m dash. Dim notched a third-place finish with a 24.54. James was fifth in 25.06, followed by Martin in 25.11 and Walton finishing eighth in 25.19.
Marshburn finished third in both hurdles races. She was clocked in at 14.59 in the 100m hurdles and finished the 400m hurdles with a season-best time of 1:00.25.
Freshman Katie Matthews was third in the 5,000m run with a time of 17:37.39, while senior Mollie Zapata also scored with an 18:15.20, good for eighth.
Mosser placed third in the 1,500m run, finishing in 4:35.33, and Takahashi posted a 2:16.90 in the 800m run to finish eighth.
Dim and Howard scored in the 400m dash as Dim finished fifth in 56.76 and Howard was sixth in 57.96.
The Terriers are back in action next weekend, competing at the New England Championships on Friday and Saturday in Amherst, Mass.
