BOSTON - The Boston University men's soccer team received a top-40 nationally ranking for its incoming recruiting class, College Soccer News announced Monday. In 2008, the 31st-ranked class helped the Terriers capture the America East regular season and tournament titles en route to the second round of the NCAAs.
The class of 2013 ranks 32nd in this year's poll and features five freshmen, including U.S. national team member Ade Akinsanya, who was ranked 23rd in TopDrawerSoccer.com's 2009 recruiting class, and NSCAA high school all-American Diego Garcia. Brandon Briggs, Nick Prunier and Max White are the other three players joining BU.
"The ranking is a credit to our coaches and to the improvement within the conference," said 25th-year head coach Neil Roberts. "The class isn't even finalized yet because we have an incoming transfer in Theo Terris and another player who should be joining the team soon before our first game.
"We are excited for the upcoming season, and people will be pleasantly surprise by what they see on the field." Roberts added.
The sophomore Terris played last year for George Washington as a midfielder and made nine appearances. A native of Concord, Mass., Terris was named the Boston Globe's 2007 Division II Player of the Year. While at Concord-Carlisle High School, he led his team to the 2006 state title while also playing for the four-time Massachusetts State Cup champion FC Greater Boston Bolts club team.
The 2009 squad will make its first appearance as a team on Tuesday, Aug. 18 against Northeastern in a scrimmage set for 7 p.m. at Nickerson Field.
