The No. 15 Boston University field hockey team dropped its first conference game of the season on Saturday afternoon, as New Hampshire pulled off a 3-2 victory over the Terriers at Memorial Field. Sophomore Jacinda McLeod and junior Andrea Greene each scored for BU, which moves to 9-5 overall and 2-1 in America East play.
The Terriers drew even twice after being handed 1-0 and 2-1 deficits only to have the Wildcats score the game-winner with 3:15 left in regulation.
Hayley Rausch had a hand in all three goals for the Wildcats, tallying two goals - including the game-winner - and an assist. UNH moves to 11-4 overall with a 3-0 league mark.
New Hampshire outshot BU, 16-10, and had a 7-6 advantage in corners. Senior goalkeeper Amanda Smith recorded four saves and got some help with a defensive save by junior Giovanna Monaco. Katherine Nagengast turned in a five-save performance for the Wildcats.
Rausch opened the scoring on a breakaway at 10:23 before the Terriers tied the game under five minutes later on a corner. After taking a pass from sophomore Nicole van Oosterom, McLeod fired a shot from the left that found the right corner at 14:59.
The score remained 1-1 until the 41st minute when Kyle Lyons recorded a corner goal on assists Kara Connolly and Rausch.
BU took advantage of another corner to make it a 2-2 contest as junior Andrea Greene scored her team-leading 12th goal of the year at 55:17 on an assist from McLeod.
Rausch came up the game-winner on a corner when she deposited a rebound to the top right corner of the goal at 66:45, giving the Wildcats their first win over the Terriers since 2003. BU had won eight straight games against UNH entering Saturday's contest.
The Terriers will return to action on Wednesday (Oct. 20) when they play host to No. 5 Connecticut. Game time is set for 3 p.m.
