November 8, 2025 | Field Hockey
WASHINGTON, D.C. — Thanks to a hat trick from senior Caroline O'Brien, the Boston University field hockey team captured its fifth Patriot League title and 13th overall conference championship with a 3-2 win over Lafayette on Saturday.
O'Brien was the hero, scoring all three of BU's goals to earn tournament MVP honors and lead the Terriers to their first Patriot League title since 2018.
Her goal in the 57th minute would prove to be the winner after Lafayette had come back from deficits of 1-0 and 2-1 in the second half to tie the game in the fourth quarter.
Junior Sophie Ortyl made two saves in the win, including key corner attempts from the Leopards.
O'Brien was joined on the Patriot League All-Tournament Team by senior Megan Wetzel, senior Martu Coulo and freshman Delfi Coulo.

- With just over three minutes left in the first half, Fragomeni denied Martu Coulo on a shot. Lafayette countered with three shots in 60 seconds, but the Terrier defense blocked one and let the two other chances sail wide.

- BU earned a penalty stroke just before the end of the third quarter, but Fragomeni denied junior Maggie Driscoll's try.
