
Terriers Win Two Events, Finish Fourth at AE Championships

DURHAM, N.H. - Named Most Outstanding Rookie, freshman Allison Barwise placed first in the heptathlon and third in the high jump to lead the Boston University women's track and field team to a fourth-place finish in the America East Championships Sunday at the University of New Hampshire. Senior Andrea Walkonen also had a strong performance, capturing her second career outdoor 5,000-meter league title.
Albany won the team title with 197.50 points, followed by Maine (172) and New Hampshire (133). Sitting behind BU (101.50) were UMBC (68), Vermont (59), Binghamton (55), Stony Brook (49) and Hartford (19).
The Terriers had a total of nine top-three results and 17 top-eight finishes. Barwise became the first at BU to win the heptathlon, setting a championship record by compiling 5,104 points. Her performance topped a seven-year old record of 4,754 set by Northeastern's Nicole Parker.
In the sprints, both Jackie Dim and Laura Martin had standout performances. Finishing third in the 200m, Dim also took second in the 400m, while Martin placed fifth in the 100m and eighth in the 200m.
They later teamed with Amanda Howard and Catherine Milledge, who went third in the 100m hurdles, to take second in the 4x100m relay.
Katie Matthews missed out on the 10,000m title by 10.35 seconds after recording a time of 35:32.03. In the high jump, Karly Neveu cleared 1.73m (5-08) to place second.
The Terriers will next participate in the two-day New England Championships on May 7-8 in Dedham, Mass.
