Finishing fourth in the 10,000-meter run during the East Region at NC A&T State University, senior Andrea Walkonen qualified for the NCAA Championships with a time of 34:49.83 to earn this week's GoTerriers.com Student-Athlete of the Week honors. Walkonen will be one of 24 competitors racing in Eugene, Ore., on Wednesday, June 9.
Posting the ninth-fastest collegiate time ever back in March at 32:31.33 during the Stanford Invitational, she finished six seconds ahead of her nearest competitor and 20 seconds behind the winner.
A 2009 All-American in cross country and indoor track (5,000m), Walkonen qualified for the outdoor NCAAs last season in the same event but was unable to finish the race due to injury. She took 13th in 2008 behind then-senior Marisa Ryan, who placed fourth for All-America status.
