NEW ORLEANS - Senior Andrea Walkonen has officially been named a USTFCCCA All-American, the organization announced on Tuesday afternoon. Walkonen finished ninth overall in the 10,000 meter at the NCAA Championships and was among the top eight U.S. citizens to finish in the race. This is Walkonen's third All-America distinction, as she earned the prestigious honor in 2009 in cross country and indoor track.
The ninth-place finish marks Walkonen's best performance at the NCAA outdoor event. In 2009, she was unable to finish the race due to injury after placing 13th in 2008.
The conclusion of the race marks the end of the 2009-10 athletics season for Boston University, which recently captured its fifth straight America East Commissioner's Cup after winning six league titles.
A total of 523 awards will be presented to the 428 individuals as a result of a national top-eight finish in this past weekend's NCAA Division I Outdoor Championships in Eugene, Ore. In addition, the top eight finishing athletes among U.S. citizens from the NCAA Championships gain All-America status.
