BOSTON -
The Boston University cross country teams boasted a pair of individual winners Sunday morning at the America East Pre-Championships at Franklin Park. In a dual meet against Florida State, graduate student Eric Ashe took the men's title on the 8K course with a time of 24:30, while senior Kathleen Davies captured the women's title, covering the 5K course in 18:48.
Ashe, who led the entire race, crossed the finish line 14 seconds before the next runner. Juniors Robert Gibson (25:06) and Peter Gilmore (25:06) were the next BU finishers and secured eighth- and ninth-place finishes, respectively. Junior Matthew Paulson secured a 12th-place finish with a time 25:34, while senior Ken Haltom crossed the finish line in 25:55, good for 13th place.
Along with Davies, freshman Rosa Moriello (18:48) crossed the finish line with the lead pack and placed fourth on the women's side. Sophomore Breeanna Potter finished in 19:12, good for 13th place, while junior Madeline Steiner secured a 14th-place finish with a time of 19:20. Sophomore Nikki Long rounded out BU's top runners with a time of 19:29, good for 15th place.
The men's squad was downed by Florida State, 31-20, while on the women's side, the Terriers fell to the Seminoles, 37-23.
Both squads return to action on Oct. 9 for the New England Championships at Franklin Park.
