CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - The No. 11 Boston University field hockey team recorded 16 shots and earned a season-high 12 corners but was unable to get on the board in a 1-0 loss to Old Dominion on Sunday afternoon at Jack Barry Field. The Terriers fall to 6-3 on the year, while the Monarchs improve to 4-6.

Old Dominion broke the scoreless deadlock 3:34 into the second half off its only corner of the contest and then withstood late pressure from the Terriers that included back-to-back corners to close the contest.

BU threatened to score throughout the game, beginning with a handful of strong chances in the early stages. Senior Allie Dolce had the best opportunity when she stole the ball at the top of the ODU circle and dribbled in all alone before her attempt went just wide.

The Terriers outshot the Monarchs, 9-1, in the opening half, but could not get a shot past goalkeeper Devon Seifert and the ODU defense and settled for a 0-0 score heading into the half.

The Monarchs took full advantage of their lone corner of the contest when Loran Hatch scored her team-leading sixth goal of the season on a blast from the top of the circle with assists from Alyschia Conn and Paige Clutter at 38:34. Hatch's shot tipped off the stick of a Terrier defender and hit the middle of the net.

BU held a 16-6 advantage in shots for the game and controlled possession for the vast majority of the contest. Senior goalkeeper Amanda Smith recorded three saves for the Terriers while Seifert made seven stops on the day and got some help with a defensive save from Amanda Bieber.

The Terriers will return to action on Friday (Oct. 1) when they open America East play with a road contest against Vermont. Game time is set for 3 p.m.
