BOSTON - Earning its second consecutive home victory, the Boston University men's tennis team defeated Sacred Heart, 4-3, on Sunday evening at the Track and Tennis Center. Sophomore Ferdinand Brunet earned the clinching point to help the Terriers improve to 3-3.
Avenging last year's 5-2 loss, BU swept through doubles action with identical 8-4 scores and captured the first two singles points. However, the Pioneers (0-3) rallied with three victories to put the final outcome in the hands of Brunet and Michael Syer at No. 6. Winning the final three games, Brunet pulled through with a 7-5, 6-3 victory.
Freshman Jesse Frieder claimed a 6-3, 6-2 win at No. 4 singles after teaming with classmate Jarred Pendleton in doubles action. Junior Michael Kopelman dropped just four games in the No. 3 slot after he and sophomore Josh Friedman won the top doubles spot.
In a contest that featured two tiebreakers, Friedman almost claimed another point for BU at No. 1 singles by rallying to send his match to a third set but eventually fell 7-6(5), 2-6, 7-6(5).
The Terriers will next host Bryant on Sunday, Feb. 20, with action set to begin at 3 p.m.
