
Track & Field Shines at Brown Invitational

PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The Boston University men's and women's track & field teams captured seven events at the Brown Invitational at Brown Stadium on Saturday.
The women's team garnered six wins at the meet, including junior Shelby Walton's first-place finishes in the 100m (12.18) and 200m (24.82) dashes.
Walton was also a member of one relay win for the Terriers, as the 4x100m relay team (Whitney Ford, Catherine Milledge, Laura Martin, Walton) placed first.
In field events, sophomore Allison Barwise captured the high jump with a 1.75m mark, while Ford won the long jump with a 5.89m leap.
In addition, sophomore Marita Stressenger was the first collegian to cross the finish line in the 3,000-meter steeplechase (11:14.26).
On the men's side, sophomore R.J. Page collected the lone win for the Terriers as he captured the 200m dash with a time of 22.11.
BU garnered eight additional top-five finishes, highlighted by senior Dan Withrow's performance in the discus. Withrow earned the best mark for a collegian with a 49.43m throw. The Dedham, Mass., native also placed third in the shot put (15.11m).
Juniors Ceylon Mitchell and Matt Pereira and freshmen Brian Leonard and Stephen Vitale teamed for a second-place finish in the 4x100m relay with a time of 42.70. In the same event, BU's `B' team (Davis VanOpdorp, Ryan Christianson, Ibifiri Wilcox, Blake Edwards) finished fifth (43.83).
Vitale also placed third in the 400m hurdles with a time of 55.67, while sophomore Robert Gibson secured a third-place finish in the 3,000m run (8:24.18).
In the pole vault, sophomore Adam Weaver tied for second with a 4.15m mark, while freshman Rafael Ayala placed fifth (3.85m).
BU's multi-event student-athletes will return to action at Holy Cross on Wednesday and Thursday (April 20-21), while the remainder of the squads will participate at the two-day Larry Ellis Invitational on Friday and Saturday (April 22-23) in Princeton, N.J.
