BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - At the NCAA East Preliminary Round, junior Katie Matthews of the Boston University women's track & field team qualified for the NCAA championships with a fifth-place finish in the 10,000m semifinal round on Thursday evening.

At Indiana University's Robert C. Haugh Track & Field Complex, Matthews completed the race in 33.50.86. The top-12 runners advanced to the NCAA championships.

The Rocky Hill, Conn., native, who earned All-America status after finishing sixth in the 5,000m at the NCAA indoor championships, will next compete at the NCAA outdoor championships in Des Moines, Iowa, on Wednesday, June 8.

In first-round races, junior Shelby Walton competed in the 100m dash and, on the men's side, classmate Tewado Latty participated in the 400m dash but both failed to advance.

Five Terriers, including senior Whitney Ford (triple jump) and sophomore Allison Barwise (high jump), will continue preliminary-round competition Friday (May 27). On the track, sophomore Nikko Brady will compete in the 100m hurdles, and Walton and sophomore R.J. Page will participate in the the women's and men's 200m first round, respectively.
