BOSTON - For the second time this week, the Boston University men's soccer team received recognition from a publication, as College Soccer News tabbed senior Michael Bustamante a preseason All-American and the Class of 2015 the 22nd best in the nation.
A three-time First Team All-America East honoree placed on the third team, Bustamante is the lone student-athlete from the state of Massachusetts to earn preseason All-America accolades from CSN. Becoming just the 11th Terrier in the program's history to receive a third All-Northeast Region award and first since Zach Kirby ('06), the 2008 Midfielder of the Year was an anchor once again in the midfield last season. He helped the offense by converting on two penalty kicks and assisting on four scores, while also helping BU's defense shut out eight opponents. With 23 career assists, he is just one shy of cracking the top 10 in program history.
The 11-member Class of 2015 is the highest ranking group in New England at No. 22 with Connecticut next at No. 34. The poll was released before 27th-year head coach Neil Roberts added Nick Thomson, a goalkeeper from England who will compete for the starting role immediately. The group includes three ESPN Rise All-Americans (Mac McGuire, Sanford Spivey and Taylor Washington).
Dominique Badji earned First Team All-Virginia accolades, and Cameron Souri competed for the LA Galaxy Academy as a member of the U.S. Development program. TopDrawer Soccer ranked Keagan McDonnell 10th in the Northeast and Parker Powell 10th in the Pacific Northwest.
On Monday, TopDrawer Soccer marked Bustamante, Ben Berube and Colin Henry as three of the top-75 seniors in the country.
The Terriers will face Rhode Island in their first exhibition on Monday, Aug. 15.
