BOSTON - Riding a three-game unbeaten streak, the Boston University men's soccer team returns to Nickerson Field to host America East foe Vermont on Wednesday night with action slated to begin at 7 p.m.

Winner of three of the last four conference regular season titles, the Terriers (4-5-3, 1-0-1 AE) have an opportunity to move ahead of the Catamounts (5-4-3, 2-0-0 AE) in the league standings with just four games remaining on the schedule following the meeting.

BU started its unbeaten streak by earning a 1-1 come-from-behind draw against Hartford and followed with a 3-0 victory against Adelphi and a thrilling 2-1 overtime victory at Stony Brook. Senior Michael Bustamante has served as the spark splug, contributing two goals and an assist during the streak.

The 2009 AE Midfielder of the Year now sits atop the team lead in points with nine off three goals and three assists. Junior Anthony Ciccone ranks 11th nationally in total assists with six and is one of eight alongside Bustamante to have scored a goal for BU this season.

Named AE Rookie of the Week on Monday, freshman Carlos Ruiz joined the list by scoring the equalizer in the 78th minute against Stony Brook to send the game to extra sessions. Sophomore goalkeeper Nick Thomson tallied two saves in the contest and currently ranks fifth in the league with a 1.18 goals against average and eighth in save percentage at 0.741.

His counterpart Wednesday is Conor Leland, who has a 1.17 GAA and 0.804 save percentage. He helped Vermont open the year with a 1-0 shutout win against Rhode Island but then followed with three consecutive losses to UMass, Michigan and Oakland.

Since then though, the Catamounts are 4-1-3 with the lone loss coming against Dartmouth. Vermont topped Hartford, 3-2, on Saturday and earlier earned a 4-1 victory against Hofstra, a team that claimed a 2-1 win over BU. Reigning AE Player of the Week Joe Losier was key against the Hawks, tallying the game-tying goal before setting up the game winner.

Losier leads the team in points with 12 off five goals and two assists. D.J. Edler also has five goals, while Sean Sweeney has a team-high three assists.

BU owns a 26-10-7 lead in the all-time series dating back to 1972. The Terriers are riding a five-game unbeaten streak with four wins by a combined score of 7-2.

Following the game, BU will visit UMBC on Saturday (Oct. 13) at 7 p.m.
