HAVERHILL, Mass. - The Boston University men's tennis team battled hard but came up just short against Connecticut, 5-2, on Friday afternoon in Haverhill, Mass. The Huskies won two of the three doubles matches for the first point and then pulled out four singles victories to improve to 3-2 on the season.
After teaming with junior Marcus VanBerkel for an 8-5 win in the No. 3 doubles slot, junior Alex Hallenbeck dropped just five games in singles action during the 6-4, 6-1 victory against Peter Surovic at No. 6 singles.
Both of the top two singles contests went to a third set. BU's sophomore Jesse Frieder came out the victor at No. 2 in a 6-4, 3-6, 7-6(3) thriller over Jacob Spreyer, while UConn's Scott Warden rallied from a set down to defeat junior Josh Friedman, 3-6, 6-3, 6-3.
Junior Michael Kopelman tried to send the No. 4 match to a third set but lost the second set tiebreaker, as Dave Adams earned the 6-1, 7-6(5) victory.
