
Women's Track & Field Places Third at Skyhawk Invitational

NORTH EASTON, Mass. - The Boston University women’s track and field team boasted five first-place finishes en route to a third-place showing at the Skyhawk Invitational this Saturday at W.B. Mason Stadium.
BU earned 144.5 points over 21 events. The Terriers trailed just Tufts (206.5) and Stonehill, the host school (175).
The Terriers’ afternoon was highlighted by the 4x400m relay team, which set a facility record to claim first place. Freshmen Gemma Acheampong, Amber Muhammed and Victoria Perez were joined by sophomore Carolyn Maynard to finish with a time of 3:55.19.
The four members of the relay team were also strong individually. BU claimed the top three spots in the 200m dash, as Acheampong was first with a time of 25.84 seconds, while Maynard (25.96) and Muhammed (26.46) rounded out the top-three. Perez placed first in the 400m hurdles with a time of 1:06.08. She also ran the 100m hurdles and finished eighth (16.16).
The 100m dash also saw a cavalcade of Terrier successes, with Acheampong leading the way with a second-place time of 12.59 seconds. Maynard was fourth (12.87), Muhammed was fifth (12.96) and sophomore Chelsey Hanson was seventh (13.06). Hanson also finished second in the triple jump (10.88m) and eighth in the long jump.
Junior Allison Barwise had a pair of first-place finishes, as she claimed both the 100m hurdles and the high jump. She broke her own facility record in the high jump with a mark of 1.80m. She won the hurdles with a time of 14.94 seconds.
Senior Anna Lukes led the Terriers in the 800m run with a sixth-place showing (2:19.62). Sophomore Ally Brillaud was ninth (2:24.40) and Ashli Tagoai finished 11th (2:26.98). Senior Mariko Takahashi claimed first place in the 1500m run with a time of 4:41.43, while Tagoai placed fifth (4:55.10).
Sophomore Sarah Dillard placed second in the discus with a throw of 39.41, while junior Susan Ottey had a 10th-place throw (28.12m). Dillard (40.00m) and Ottey (39.42m) also finished sixth and seventh, respectively, in the hammer throw. Sophomore Betsy Bartlett was second in the pole vault (3.05m), while senior Alyson Rofrano tied for third with a mark of 2.90m.
BU will be back in action next weekend when the Terriers compete at the Larry Ellis Invitational (April 20-21) in Princeton, N.J., as well as the MIT Invitational (April 21) in Cambridge, Mass.
