DES MOINES, Iowa - Sophomore Rich Peters finished sixth in the 1500m run and junior Allison Barwise placed ninth in the high jump as both athletes concluded their respective collegiate seasons at the NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships at Drake Stadium this weekend.
Peters earned three points for the Terriers thanks to his sixth-place showing. After setting a new school record on Thursday (3:42.69) in his semifinal heat, the Bristol, England, native completed the national final in 3:44.66. Andrew Bayer (3:43.82) of Indiana won the event in a photo finish, as he edged Miles Batty (3:43.83) of BYU by one one-hundredth of a second.
Barwise reached a height of 1.83m to finish tied for ninth in the national high jump final. The Orange, Conn., native had three attempts to once again achieve a height of 1.87m, but was unable to match her personal best. She qualified for the U.S. Olympic Trials by achieving that height at the ECAC Championships in May. Brigetta Barrett of Arizona won the event with a mark of 1.93m.
Both athletes are slated to return to BU for the 2012-13 season, with Peters set to begin his junior year on the men's cross country team in September. Barwise will compete in the high jump at the U.S. Olympic Trials beginning on June 28 and will enter her senior year at BU this coming fall.
