Sophomore Rich Peters, the national runner-up in the mile and a two-time All-American, was named the Most Valuable Performer for the 2011-12 men's track and field team.
Peters began the year with a superb indoor season that was capped off by his second-place finish in the mile at the NCAA Championships. He was edged by just 0.12 seconds, but still earned USTFCCCA First Team All-America honors for his strong effort. Peters also set a school record in the mile when he won the event at the Valentine Invitational with a time of 3:57.83 and was the America East champion in that event.
During the outdoor season, Peters advanced to the 1500m final at the NCAA Championships and was named a USTFCCCA First Team All-American. He became the first Terrier male to earn All-America accolades in the same calendar year since Greg Gonsalves and Anthony Kenneally each accomplished that feat in 1986. He also broke a school record in the 1500m run (3:42.69) and was the America East champion in that event.
