BOSTON – The Boston University men’s and women’s track & field teams and director of track & field and cross country Robyne Johnson announced the 2013-14 rosters on Monday.
Seventeen athletes will join the men’s squad while 22 newcomers will be added to the women’s roster. The 39 incoming recruits represent 13 different states and will compete in sprints, distance and multi events as Terriers.
“I’m real excited about this incoming class,” Johnson said. “This is probably one of the largest we’ve had since I’ve been at BU and they are all very talented. We already know that they’re very capable. I’m really looking forward to seeing what they have on the track and seeing them in the Patriot League.”
On the men’s side, two of the top high school sprinters in the nation will join the Terriers in Cameron Williams (San Antonio, Texas) and Justin Flynn (Rochester Hills, Mich.). Scottsdale, Ariz., native Matti Groll will also be a mid-distance competitor to watch.
“We’re excited about getting Cameron, who is one of the best sprinters in the country,” Johnson said. “He’s going to be a part of all our relays and a standout in our sprints. He’s shown that he’s a good competitor and we’re really looking forward to him getting on the track and showcasing his abilities.”
“We’re also excited about Justin’s potential and we think he’ll be a strong shower in the Patriot League. Matti is a mid-distance kid who can make an immediate impact on our team and help on some of the relay teams.”
The women’s team also got two key sprinters in Toria Levy (Weston, Fla.) and Djenne Paris (Brookfield, Conn.). Both will be likely to make an immediate impact for BU.
“Toria is going to be huge for our team,” Johnson said. “She’s a very talented lady out of a great Florida high school that has a lot of tradition in track & field and we want to keep that tradition rolling here. She’s one of the top kids in the country in sprints and hurdles. Djenne comes from a great history of track & field. She’ll make an immediate impact and we’re looking forward to what she can do at the regional level."
The Terriers will open their indoor season on Dec. 7 when they host the BU Season Opener. The Track & Tennis Center will welcome competitors for seven different meets in 2013-14.
