
Women's Basketball Posts 64-45 Win Over Stony Brook

BOSTON – Three players scored in double digits as the Boston University women’s basketball team defeated Stony Brook, 64-45, Wednesday night at Case Gym. The victory extends BU’s winning streak to 12 straight games over the Seawolves and improves the Terriers’ season record to 19-4 with a 9-1 mark in America East action.
Senior Chantell Alford reached the 20-point plateau for the seventh time this season to lead BU while classmate Mo Moran chipped in 12 points and three assists. Junior Rashidat Agboola was perfect from the field (6-for-6) and from the charity stripe (5-for-5) to finish with 17 points and eight rebounds.
Junior Whitney Turner led BU with a career-high six assists in addition to seven points and four rebounds while senior Kristen Sims added nine points and three assists.
Sabre Proctor was one of two Seawolves to score in double-digits, as she finished with 14 points while Chikilra Goodman added 10 points and seven rebounds.
BU shot 48.1 percent from the field (25-of-52) and was a perfect 7-for-7 from the free throw line. Stony Brook finished with a 33.3 percent clip (17-of-51) and converted 8-of-15 attempts from the charity stripe (53.3 percent).
The Seawolves held the advantage on the glass, 35-29, but committed 18 turnovers, compared to 12 for the Terriers. BU also finished with 10 steals and eight blocks.
BU never trailed in the game and built a double-digit lead following a 3-pointer from Sims with 13:43 to go in the first half before extending its advantage to 13 points following a trey from Alford and a layup from Sims. Stony Brook brought the deficit down to eight with a layup by Brittany Snow but a pair of free throws from Agboola pushed the Terriers' lead back to 10, 22-12, with 11:02 to play.
Following a jumper from Mollie McKendrick, the Seawolves came within seven points after a basket from Chikilra Goodman with 3:11 to play. Alford quickly responded on the other end with a layup and Agboola followed with a shot for the Terriers to regain a double-digit lead. Alford closed out the half by hitting her second 3-pointer of the period to send BU to the locker room with a 35-21 lead.
The Terriers defense came out strong in the second half and held Stony Brook to just two points in the first six and a half minutes of the period, as BU built its lead to 50-23 with 13:39 to play. The Seawolves battled back with a 16-3 run over the next four minutes to bring their deficit down to 14, 53-39, but Turner got BU back on the board with a layup at the 8:43 mark.
Stony Brook again struggled to score, as the Seawolves went a stretch of five minutes without a field goal and BU built its lead back to 18 following two free throws from Agboola with 5:45 to play. Gerda Gatling ended the drought for Stony Brook with a layup with 5:22 to play but the Seawolves only managed one more basket for the remainder of the game as the Terriers went on to win 64-45.
BU hits the road for its next two games and makes its first stop in Vestal, N.Y., to play Binghamton on Saturday (Feb. 9). Tip-off is set for 2:30 p.m.
