After advancing to the NCAA Championships in the 10,000m run, graduate student Katie Matthews of the Boston University women’s track & field team has been named the GoTerriers.com Student-Athlete of the Week.
Competing in the 2013 NCAA Division I Women's Track and Field Preliminary Championships on May 30, Matthews placed third in the 10,000m run with a time of 33:27.28. It is the fastest time in the conference, as she edged Maine's Corey Conner by over a second in Thursday's race.
This is the second time that Matthews has advanced to the NCAA Championships in the 10,000m run; she finished eighth in 2011 and was named a First Team All-American. The Rocky Hill, Conn., native was a two-time All-American during the indoor season.
Matthews was named to the America East All-Academic Team on May 23 after she maintained a 3.94 GPA while pursuing a master's of science in speech-language pathology.
