
Track & Field Teams Find Success at Florida State

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - The Boston University men's and women's track & field teams combined for 18 top-five finishes and three victories at the Florida State Twilight Invitational on Friday night at Mike Long Track.
Junior Carolyn Maynard won a 400m dash for the second straight week after she finished with a time of 56.69 seconds. Sophomore Gemma Acheampong was also victorious as she won the 100m dash with a time of 11.99 seconds. Senior Shelby Walton was fifth in the 100m dash (12.19).
In the 100m hurdles, senior Nikko Brady was second (13.55) and freshman Sophie Jancsurak finished fourth (14.55). Acheampong (24.68), Walton (25.09) and Maynard (25.30) finished fifth, eighth and ninth, respectively, in the 200m dash. Senior Julia Mirochnick was fifth (1:02.89) and sophomore Victoria Perez placed eighth (1:04.84) in the 400m hurdles.
Sophomore Tessa Runels finished third in the triple jump (11.19m) while Junior Sarah Dillard placed seventh in the hammer throw with a personal-best mark of 45.20 meters. Dillard also had a ninth-place finish in the discus (37.60m) and senior Susan Ottey (43.44m) finished eighth in the hammer throw.
On the men's side, senior R.J. Page was victorious in the 100m dash with a time of 10.62 seconds. He also placed second in the 200m dash (21.19) and classmate Tewado Latty was right behind him in third with a season-best mark of 21.49 seconds.
Junior Stephen Vitale secured second place in the 400m hurdles with a season-best time of 52.86 seconds. Graduate student Zachary Ray finished third in that event (43.49) and was also third in the 110m hurdles with a time of 14.28 seconds. Latty also took third in the 400m dash with a season-best time of 46.95 seconds. Sophomore Stuart Ross joined Latty with a third-place performance in the 800m run (1:53.34).
In the field events, senior Sam Wuest was second in the high jump (1.95m) while freshman Reuben Horace finished fourth in the hammer throw (55.09m). Sophomore Michael Maloof was sixth (50.53m) in that event.
BU will have athletes compete next weekend at the New England Championships, IC4A Championships and ECAC Championships.
