EUGENE, Ore. - Graduate student Zachary Ray of the Boston University men's track and field team concluded his season in the national semifinals of the 400m hurdles on Wednesday night at the 2013 NCAA Division I Outdoor Track & Field Championships at Hayward Field.
Ray finished fifth in his heat of the 400m hurdles with a time of 51.32 seconds. He finished 14th overall in the semifinals, improving 10 spots from the start of the day. After battling injury for much of the outdoor season, Ray posted a time under 52 seconds in each of his last three races.
This was the second straight year that Ray competed at the NCAA Championships in the 400m hurdles. His time on Wednesday was his fastest in a national semifinal and his season-best time came in March at the Shamrock Invitational (51.16), which was also the top time in the conference. Ray also had the top 110m hurdles time in the America East at 14.01 seconds.
After concluding his undergraduate studies at Maryland, Ray finished his first and only year at BU a part of two school-record holding relay teams, including the 4x400 foursome that posted a time of 3:08.41 at the IC4A Championships during the indoor season. That was the fastest 4x400m relay of any New England school in history.
