
Four Terriers Named to USTFCCCA All-Academic Team

NEW ORLEANS - Seniors Nikko Brady and R.J. Page, along with graduate students Katie Matthews and Zachary Ray of the Boston University men's and women's track and field teams, were each named to the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) All-Academic Team on Wednesday.
Brady maintained a 3.25 grade-point average as an environmental analysis & policy major. She advanced to the NCAA East preliminaries in the 100m hurdles and set a personal best in the event with a time of 13.55 seconds at the Florida State Twilight, which was also the top mark in the conference.
Matthews, the America East Woman of the Year and America East Scholar-Athlete of the Year, maintained a 3.94 GPA while pursuing a master's of science degree in speech-language pathology. She concluded 2013 as the first Terrier athlete, male or female, to earn three USTFCCCA All-America selections in one calendar year, including two first-team nods. The Rocky Hill, Conn., native also broke three school records and finished fifth in two different events at the NCAA Championships.
Page had a 3.45 GPA as a dual major in economics and business administration & management. The Swedesboro, N.J., native was an America East Winter Scholar-Athlete in addition to being a recipent of the University's Scarlet Key. Page qualified for the NCAA East prelims in the 200m dash and during the indoor season joined Ray as a member of the 4x400m relay team that set a school and New England record at the IC4A Championships with a second-place time of 3:08.41.
Ray earned a 3.81 GPA while majoring in criminal justice. He was a USTFCCCA Second Team All-American in the 400m hurdles and also advanced to the NCAA East preliminaries in the 110m hurdles. He finished 14th in the 400m hurdles at the NCAA Championships and had the top mark in the conference in both the 110m and 400m hurdles.
In addition to the individual honors, both the men's and women's squads were among the USTFCCCA's All-Academic Teams. The men had a cumulative GPA of 3.18 while the women had a cumulative GPA of 3.12. Both squads were among the highest-placing teams with at least a 3.00 cumulative team GPA at both this season’s indoor and outdoor NCAA Division I Championships.
To qualify for the USTFCCCA All-Academic Track and Field Team, the student-athlete must have compiled a cumulative grade point average of 3.25 and have met either of the following athletic standards: for the indoor season, a student-athlete must have finished the regular season ranked in the national top 96 in an individual event or ranked in the national top 48 (collective listing) in a relay event on the official NCAA POP list provided by TFRRS.org; for the outdoor season, a student-athlete must have participated in any round of the NCAA Division I Championships (including preliminary rounds).
