Highlighted by seven meets at the Track and Tennis Center, director of track & field and cross country Robyne Johnson announced the 2013-14 indoor schedules for the men's and women's track & field programs.
The Terriers will compete in at least 12 different meets in three states, including trips to Rhode Island and Pennsylvania, with the latter being the site of the 2014 Patriot League Championships hosted by Bucknell. This will be the Terriers' first time competing at that event and the women's team will look to win a conference title for the second time in three seasons.
"I think it will be a little bit more even than the America East," Johnson said in regard to the Patriot League Championships. "I think our students will be closer in competition and it will be a very good meet. Our kids and the coaching staff are really looking forward to being in the Patriot League and competing in a meet that means a lot to all our kids. You see the best come out at the conference championships."
The 2013-14 campaign will begin on Dec. 7 when the Terriers host the BU Season Opener. They will return to the TTC on Jan. 16 to host the Multi-Team Meet. Athletes competing in either the pentathlon or heptathlon will travel to Cambridge, Mass., on the weekend of Jan. 18-19 for the Harvard Multi-Meet.
The annual John Thomas Terrier Invitational will take place the weekend of Jan. 24-25. The women's team will compete on the first day beginning at 2 p.m., while the men's meet will be held the following day (9 a.m.).
BU will send athletes to the University of Rhode Island Invitational, Tufts Invitational and Boston Indoor Games on Saturday, Feb. 1. The following weekend (Feb. 7-8), the Terriers will return home to host the David Hemery Valentine Invitational. The women will compete on Friday (1 p.m.) before the men take to the track on Saturday (9 a.m.).
The Terriers will have two weeks off before traveling to Lewisburg, Pa., for the Patriot League Championships, held Feb. 21-23. It will be the first time BU has not hosted a conference championship since 1999.
"Some of our kids have only competed at the TTC or just in Boston, so the kids are excited to see something new and something different," Johnson said. "There might be a little more hype about it because sometimes our kids get spoiled on our track all the time and this year they will have to learn to adapt."
The New England Championships will take place at the TTC on Feb. 28-March 1. BU will host its Last Chance Meet on March 2 before the ECAC/IC4A Championships conclude the home schedule on March 7-9. Albuquerque, N.M., will be the site of the 2014 NCAA Indoor Championships to take place March 14-15. BU boasted three All-America selections in 2013.
