BOSTON - Concluding a four-game homestand, the Boston University men's soccer team dropped a 2-0 decision to the Big East's unbeaten Providence on Friday night at Nickerson Field. With their three-game win streak snapped, the Terriers drop to 3-3-0, while the Friars improve to 5-0-2.

Junior Dominique Badji led BU with three shot attempts, including a header that just hit the crossbar in the eighth minute off a perfect cross from classmate Cameron Souri. Twenty minutes later, Fabio Machado scored his first of two goals on the night by firing the ball from 10 yards out toward the far post with help from Dominik Machado and Brandon Adler.

The Friars entered the contest averaging 1.83 goals per game and were on the attack throughout the first half. They entered the locker room with a 1-0 advantage on the scoreboard and 13-4 lead in shots while also holding a 5-2 lead in corner kicks.

Redshirt-freshman Matt Gilbert tallied four of his seven saves in the first half to keep the deficit at one goal. The Terriers tried to find the equalizer in the 52nd minute with Badji firing a shot that was blocked and freshman David Asbjornsson heading a corner kick over the crossbar.

Providence added a second goal at 60:34 off the foot of Fabio Machado, who quickly scored after Gilbert saved a point-blank attempt from Jeff Kilday.

BU tried to mount a rally, but senior Fannar Arnarsson's header was blocked at 65:39, and sophomore Mac McGuire sent a shot wide of the net at 67:04. The Terriers also had corners at 70:11 and 88:52, respectively, but could not convert.

Providence finished ahead in shots, 21-9, and in corner kicks, 7-5, after the two teams battled to a 1-1 draw last season.

The Terriers will next take a short trip over to Harvard on Wednesday (Sept. 25) at 7 p.m.
