BOSTON - Looking to remain atop the Patriot League standings, the Boston University men's soccer team will visit Lehigh Saturday night with action slated to begin at 7 p.m.
This past Wednesday, the Terriers (7-2-1, 3-0-0 PL) became the only undefeated team left in the conference after they earned a 1-0 victory at Holy Cross and the Mountain Hawks (6-4-0, 2-1-0 PL) dropped a 2-0 decision at Lafayette. With the victory over the Crusaders, BU surpassed last season's win total and extended its unbeaten streak to six games, the program's longest since 2010.
BU has outscored opponents, 11-4, during the streak despite opponents owning advantages in both shots (84-68) and corner kicks (27-25). Ranking third in the PL in points per game at 1.20, Senior Dominique Badji has been the offensive leader, contributing all five of his goals during the last four weeks with one of his two assists. Classmate Jordan Barker has also played a key role in the midfield with game winners against both UMass and Holy Cross.
In total, eight players have tallied at least one assist, including senior keeper Nick Thomson. He and the backline anchored by senior back Kelvin Madzongwe have shut out five opponents with three blank sheets occurring during the streak. BU currently owns a 0.58 goals against average and 0.854 save percentage.
Lehigh has been shut out three times but has also earned four multi-goal performances. Jamie Luchini leads the Mountain Hawks offensively with ten points behind four goals and a pair of assists, while Doyle Tuvesson owns seven points off three goals and an assist. At net, Ciaran Nugent (5-4-0) owns a 1.10 goals against average and 0.783 save percentage with blank sheets against Stetson, Rhode Island and Monmouth.
Saturday's contest will be just the third meeting between the Terriers and Lehigh. BU has won both previous meetings, including a 1-0 win at home last season behind a 75th-minute goal by junior Lucas McBride.
After the game, the Terriers will remain on the road and visit Dartmouth on Tuesday (Oct. 14) at 7 p.m.
