
Terriers Conclude Day Two of Patriot League Championships

LEWISBURG, Pa. - The Boston University men's and women's track & field teams competed at day two of the Patriot League Championships on Saturday at Bucknell's Gerhard Fieldhouse.
The women's team is in second place after six events with 42 points, behind only Lehigh (66) and with a five point edge on third-place Navy (32). The men's squad is in third place with 38.5 points, behind Lehigh (60.5) and Navy (45.83).
Sophomore Michelle Sumner and senior Hannah Wiley were each victorious, with Sumner finishing first in the 5,000m run (17:03.13) and Wiley winning the long jump (5.87m). Both of those marks were personal bests.
Sumner was joined in the top 10 of the 5,000m run by classmate Shelby Stableford (17:29.14) in fourth. Wiley also had a teammate finish in fourth in the long jump, as junior Tessa Runels turned in a mark of 5.47 meters. Senior Sarah Dillard (15.93m) was sixth in the weight throw and the 4x800m relay team also earned a point on Saturday, as the freshmen foursome of Fiona Doolan, Hallie Armstrong, Tina Romak and Sydney Lageux had a time of 9:30.23.
Junior Gemma Acheampong nearly set a new school record with her time of 7.56 seconds in the semifinals of the 60m dash. She will join sophomore Christy Wood (7.65) in tomorrow's final. Freshman Ally Saccone (8.77) and sophomore Sophie Jancsurak (8.95) each qualified for the finals of the 60m hurdles. Four Terriers qualified for the 200m dash final, including Wood (24.77), Acheampong (24.88), Wiley (25.26) and senior Carolyn Maynard (25.28).
On the men's side, sophomore Reuben Horace's career-best toss of 19.31 meters earned him a victory in the weight throw. Senior Connor Sullivan secured second in the high jump (2.04m) and senior Blake Edwards was third in the long jump (7.13), ahead of classmate Sam Arsenault (6.91), who finished seventh. Rounding out Saturday's field events, senior Nat Hinckley claimed third in the heptathlon with a score of 4567.
Freshman Justin Flynn qualified for Sunday's 60m dash final with a time of 6.92 seconds in the semifinals. He will also compete in tomorrow's 200m dash final thanks to a time of 22.24 seconds. Joining him in that race will be sophomore David Lagerberg (22.23).
The men's 4x800m relay team also earned points, as freshman Matti Groll, junior Alex Civitano, freshman Ethan Homan and senior Stuart Ross finished fifth with a time of 7:45.32.
Both squads will be back in action tomorrow in the third and final day of competition. freshman Justin Flynn qualified for Sunday's 60m dash final with a time of 6.92 seconds in the semifinals.
