
Johnson, Lehane, Peters Earn USTFCCCA Regional Awards

NEW ORLEANS - After a tremendous indoor season, director of track & field Robyne Johnson, assistant coach Bruce Lehane and senior Rich Peters were all honored with regional awards from the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA), as announced Monday.
Johnson was named Northeast Region Indoor Track Women's Coach of the Year, Lehane was honored as Northeast Region Indoor Track Women's Assistant Coach of the Year and Peters earned Northeast Region Men's Track Athlete of the Year. This is the third time since 2012 that a Terrier coach or athlete has received a regional award. Allison Barwise was the Women's Outdoor Field Athlete of the Year in 2012 and assistant coach Gabe Sanders was the Women's Indoor Track Assistant Coach of the Year that same year.
In her ninth season at BU, Johnson led the women's team to a Patriot League title in its first year in the conference. The Terriers scored 210 points and were 80 points clear of the second-place team Seven event titles were won and three conference-meet records were broken.
Lehane guided his distance and mid-distance women to three event titles and 77 of 210 team points at the Patriot League Championship. He had a group of six milers clock times of five minutes or better, including senior Monica Adler, who qualified for the NCAA Championships in the mile with a season-best time of 4:36.35 at the BU Last Chance Meet.
Peters has set three school standards this season, including the collegiate record in the 1,000m run (2:18.55) in what has been his finest indoor season to date. He broke school records both in the mile (3:57.27) and 3,000m run (7:52.61), which rank No. 6 and No. 13, respectively, in Division I. The Bristol, England, native was named the Patriot League Male Track Athlete of the Year after winning both the mile the 1,000m run. Peters will compete at the NCAA Championships in both the mile and at 3,000 meters.
