INDIANAPOLIS - Senior Rich Peters of the Boston University men's track & field team and classmate Monica Adler of the women's track & field team each qualified for the NCAA Indoor Track & Field Championships, held March 14-15 in Albuquerque, N.M.
Peters will attempt a double in the mile and the 3,000m run while Adler will make her NCAA debut in the mile. This is the fourth straight year that the Terriers have sent at least two athletes to the indoor championships.
After redshirting the 2013 indoor season, Peters makes his return to the NCAAs and will be one of the favorites in the mile. He was the national runner-up in that event in 2012, missing out on the title by 0.12 seconds. Peters ranks sixth in the nation entering next weekend's meet with a school-record time of 3:57.27.
The Bristol, England, native will also compete in the 3,000m run. He broke Eirik Hansen's 27-year old record of 7:54.93 with a time of 7:52.61 at the John Thomas Terrier Invitational in January. Peters will be one of three athletes looking to double the 3,000m and mile.
Adler will make her debut at the NCAA Championships after her personal-best time of 4:36.35 in the mile at the BU Last Chance Meet on March 2. That mark was just shy of the school record of 4:35.65 set by Jennifer Lanctot at the 1991 national championships. Adler is the Patriot League champion in the mile and was also an Academic All-Patriot League selection.
