Results | McCallum's postmatch comments
WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. - Making its first appearance in the Patriot League tournament, the top-seeded Boston University women's tennis team coasted past Lafayette, 5-0, during the quarterfinals on Friday morning at the West Branch Tennis Club.
With the victory, the Terriers (12-6) advance to Saturday's semifinals, which will begin at 11 a.m. at Bucknell's Varsity Courts. The Leopards end their season at 6-8 after beating ninth-seeded Holy Cross, 4-0, in the opening round on Thursday.
BU and Lafayette played indoors on Friday due to 30-degree outdoor temperatures. The Terriers needed little time to warm up, sweeping through doubles without dropping a single game.
After earning an 8-0 win at No. 2 doubles with freshman Barbara Rodriguez, sophomore Lauren Davis coasted past Jordyn Spellberg at No. 2 singles, 6-0, 6-0. Rodriguez dropped just two games in a 6-1, 6-1 victory in the No. 5 slot.
Sophomore Kim McCallum (#6) and senior Leonie-Charlotte Athanasiadis (#3) also finished with singles wins, as they dropped just one game apiece.
After the contest, No. 4 Bucknell defeated No. 5 Lehigh, 4-0. The Bison will host the Terriers at 11 a.m. on Saturday (April 19).
