BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Sophomore Gabriella Mikaul of the Boston University women's tennis team was named the Patriot League Player of the Year, the league announced Friday. Mikaul was also selected to the First Team All-Patriot League while junior Nancy Liu and sophomore Madison Liu received Second Team All-Patriot League Honors.
Mikaul went 9-5 in singles play with an undefeated 5-0 record at the No. 1 spot against Patriot League opponents. The sophomore was 2-0 in the postseason, picking up straight sets singles wins in the quarterfinal against Holy Cross and the championship match against Navy. Out of conference, she notably defeated her foe from Boston College in straight sets and No. 38 Yale in a third set tiebreaker. In doubles, Mikaul went 8-5 in the spring with another 5-0 record against Patriot League foes. All her league wins came at line one alongside N. Liu, with the pair going 1-0 in the postseason. They also teamed to take down the No. 35 ranked pair from Yale. Mikaul's major award is the second of her career after she was named the Patriot League Rookie of the Year in 2025. It also marks her second First Team All-Patriot League selection.
N. Liu finished the season with an 8-7 singles record, going 2-2 in matches against league foes. Outside of league play, the junior notably defeated opponents from Harvard, Syracuse, UMass and Brown helping BU to multiple singles points over the course of the season. Her wins against all but UMass were in straight sets. In doubles, she went 8-7 in dual matches with a 5-0 record in Patriot League play, with all her league matches being played with Mikaul. This is N. Liu's first All-Patriot League honor.
M. Liu boasted an 8-5 singles record in the spring with a 3-1 mark against league opponents. Notably, the sophomore had out of league wins against Dartmouth, UMass and FIU, with all but the UMass win occurring in straight sets. In the Patriot League postseason, she went 1-0, winning against Lehigh. She did not finish her match in the championship after forcing the third set to a tiebreaker. In doubles, she went 7-8 in the spring with a 5-2 mark against league foes. Alongside senior Emily Zhao, she memorably defeated opponents from Harvard and Dartmouth. This is M. Liu's second career selection to the Second Team All-Patriot League after receiving the honor her freshman year.
