The Boston University men's track & field team will compete at the Patriot League Outdoor Track & Field Championships this Friday and Saturday, hosted by Navy at Ingram Field.
The Terriers finished fourth at the indoor meet thanks to three individual victories, two of which were earned by senior Rich Peters. He will be making his outdoor debut and will be the favorite in the 1,500m run, an event he competed in at the NCAA Championships last year.
Two freshmen will lead a talented group of sprinters, as Justin Flynn and Cameron Williams have had strong rookie years. Flynn owns the top 100m dash time in the league (10.55) and he also ranks third in the 200m dash (21.53). Williams, the reigning Patriot League Male Rookie of the Week, is expected to collect points in the 200m dash and will also factor in the 100m dash.
Joining Flynn and Williams will be sophomore David Lagerberg. He is second in the 200m dash (21.49) and 400m dash (48.12). Senior Stephen Vitale is the top athlete in the 400m hurdles thanks to a season-best time of 52.80 seconds while freshman Alastair Prenn will be a key part of the Terrier relay teams, including the conference-best 4x100 squad that set a school record with a time of 49.97 seconds at the Florida Relays.
Aside from Peters, the Terriers boast several strong distance runners. Junior Stuart Ross and freshman Ethan Homan will be among the favorites in the 800m run. Sophomore Alec Olson ranks second in the 3,000m steeplechase (9:07.38) while classmate Kevin Thomas has a top-10 time among conference competitors in both the 1,500m and 5,000m runs. Olson and junior Ben Ravetz also have top-10 marks in the 1,500m run.
Sophomore Reuben Horace was the weight throw champion at the indoor meet and holds the top spot in the conference in the hammer throw at 59.22 meters. Junior Michael Maloof is sixth in the league in that event with a season-best toss of 55.06 meters. Senior Manuel Pastrana will make his Patriot League debut in the javelin, an event in which he is second entering the weekend with a mark of 62.15 meters.
Junior Ethan Knight will be in the mix for both the shot put and discus titles while senior Blake Edwards is one of the top long jumpers in the conference this season. Knight's classmate, Nikolaos Farmakidis, will compete in the pole vault and senior Connor Sullivan is a top competitor in the high jump.
Following the Patriot League Championships, BU will compete in the New England Championships (May 8-10).
