
Barwise Named PL Scholar-Athlete of the Year

CENTER VALLEY, Pa. - Allison Barwise of the Boston University women's track & field team was named Patriot League Women's Outdoor Track & Field Scholar-Athlete of the Year while teammates Nikko Brady and Michelle Sumner were selected to the Academic All-Patriot League squad, the conference announced on Monday.
Barwise earned the league's top academic honor after maintaining a 3.85 grade point average while pursuing a master's degree in speech-language pathology. Not only has she excelled in the classroom, but Barwise has been equally as impressive in scarlet and white. The Orange, Connecticut, native was named Patriot League Field Athlete of the Meet after setting two league records and three school records at the conference championships. She ranks third in the NCAA in the high jump after achieving a record height of 1.89 meters and is also eighth in the nation in the heptathlon after amassing a record 5628 points. Barwise also set a school record in the javelin with a throw of 44.38 meters.
Brady owns a 3.82 grade point average as she pursues a master's degree in city, community and regional planning. She was named Patriot League Track Athlete of the Meet after an impressive showing at the conference championships. Brady cruised to a victory in the 100m hurdles with a time of 13.68 seconds and also claimed first in the long jump with a mark of 6.08 meters. Her time of 13.40 seconds in the prelims of the 100m hurdles was a personal best. The New Castle, Delaware, native also won the Eastern section of the long jump at the Penn Relays with a leap of 6.21 meters, second-best in program history.
Sumner is the first Terrier to be named to the Academic All-Patriot League team in two seasons, as she earned the honor during the indoor campaign as well. Sumner has a 3.20 GPA while majoring in both business administration & management and economics. On the track, she placed third at the Patriot League Championships with a time of 36:25.98 in the 10,000m run. She ranks second in the conference in that event this season (35:23.32) and is also third in the Patriot League at 5,000 meters with a time of 16:59.52.
BU will compete at the ECAC Championships this weekend (May 16-18) in Princeton, New Jersey.
